We've been here before. As a species, we've been here several times over the last two centuries. And somehow we still can't seem to learn the lesson. We've tried collectivism and each time we have it ends up with millions dead. I know, I know. That's only because it "hasn't been done right."
No. Sorry. That's not the reason. The ideology and philosophy of collectivism as expressed through totalitarian rule, communist rule, and socialism (described by old Karl himself as a transitional phase between capitalism and communism) inherently disregards human nature and spirituality. It fails to recognize the innate motivating factors behind human existence.
But hey, it's going to be interesting to see how this new experiment in central planning, central authority, and erosion of personal rights turns out here in NYC, Seattle, Richmond, and a whole gaggle of towns where the Red-Green Alliance is rising. I'm sure it'll be amazing!
This piece grows out of a sense of head-scratching frustration that, yes, humans really are this stupid. And there's virtually no circumstance in which a growing proportion of us won't give up liberty for a morsel of security.
