The memories of the 1980 USA men's Olympic hockey victory over the Soviet team are indelible. I remember names, plays, but more than all that ... the emotion of that win. And I wasn't alone. It permeated this nation. It brought us together in victory the way little else has.
Those memories were brought back into sharp focus with the recent victories of both the USA men's and women's hockey teams over or friends and rivals to the north. Was it a miracle on ice again? No. Was it fun to watch? Heck, ya!
Congratulations to all the athletes who competed in every sport, to those who won, to those who lost, to those who gave it their all. But a special shout out goes to those who respected the American flag and the American people who they had the privilege and the talent and the fortitude to represent.
Miracles on Ice ... Again?
[Intro]
(Spoken/crowd building)
Lake Placid, 1980... "Do you believe in miracles?" YES!
Forty-six years later... Milan, 2026...
Do you believe in miracles... again?
USA! USA! USA!
[Verse 1] - Echoes of 1980 & Women's Glory
Back in '80, underdogs in red, white, and blue
Beat the mighty Soviets, made the dream come true
Herb Brooks' boys shocked the world, 4-3 on that frozen night
"Do you believe in miracles?" echoed through the lights!
Now the women rise, Hilary Knight ties it late
Megan Keller's backhand gold seals the fate
2-1 in OT, Canada falls once more
Stars and Stripes flying high forevermore!
[Pre-Chorus]
From Lake Placid ice to Milan's shine
The spirit lives on, it's our time!
[Chorus]
Do you believe in miracles... again?
YES! We beat 'em 2 to 1 in overtime!
Women's fire, men's thunder — pure American might
Double gold glory, lighting up the night!
"This is all about our country right now!"
"I love the USA!" — hear the warriors cry loud!
We're so proud to be American!
Miracles on ice... again!
[Verse 2] - Men's Triumph & Legacy
Men step up, face the maple leaf kings
Outshot but unbreakable, hear the heartstrings sing
Matt Boldy strikes first, Cale Makar answers back
Then Jack Hughes in OT — golden lightning crack!
"That’s American hockey right there," he roared with pride
First men's gold since '80, on the same February tide
46 years to the day, the drought is finally slain
From Soviets to Canada — we rise again!
[Pre-Chorus]
Guts and glory, for the land of the free
Echoes of '80, now history!
[Chorus]
Do you believe in miracles... again?
YES! We beat 'em 2 to 1 in overtime!
Women's warriors, men's heroes unite
Double gold glory, what a breathtaking sight!
"This is all about our country right now!"
"I love the USA! I love my teammates!" proud!
We're so proud to be American!
Miracles on ice... again!
[Bridge]
Great moments born from great opportunity
Herb Brooks knew it, now we see
Women and men, side by side, unbreakable chain
From Lake Placid '80 to Milano's flame
No underdogs here, just heart and fight
For the red, white, and blue — we own the night!
Do you believe...?
(Crowd roars) YES!!!
[Final Chorus]
Do you believe in miracles... again?
YES! (USA! USA!)
We beat 'em 2 to 1 in overtime! (Overtime!)
Women's fight, men's might — eternal flame!
Double gold for the USA — shout the name!
"This is all about our country!" we proclaim
We're so proud to be American! — forever the same!
Miracles on ice... again!
USA hockey... gold forever!
[Outro]
Do you believe in miracles... again?
YES! YES! YES!
USA! USA! USA!
Miracles... again! 🇺🇸
