Tom

Tom, you were one of a kind

I lost Tom ... we all did .. in May of 2022. It was a shock to me ... unexpected ... because I had become estranged and not the good friend I had hoped to be. His passing touched me and it's taken me a while to write about it ....

Tom

[Verse 1]

Met Tom on a trip up to Connecticut way

Young and green, both chasin' dreams in the fray

Sellin' software, he ran it smooth in the line

Little did I know, he'd soon be a friend of mine

[Verse 2]

Years rolled by, he hit hard times, out on his own

Told him hold tight, don't make moves all alone

Stormed my boss's door, said we're hirin' him now

No fight, no fuss, just sealed it somehow

[Pre-Chorus]

Over a decade, we grew tight as kin

My wife and I, with his family, let the good times spin

But shadows lurked deep, he hid 'em so well

Demons in bottles, stories he'd later tell

[Chorus]

Oh Tom, you were one of a kind

Through the highs and the hells, you stayed on my mind

Alcohol chains, broke your world apart

But you rose from the ashes, with a fighter's heart

We shared deep thoughts, ghosts and gods in the night

Now you're gone, but your light still burns bright

[Verse 3]

Left that old job, opened up 'bout the pain

Marriage in ruins, kids driftin' like rain

Emails flew back, philosophical fire

Theological twists, paranormal wire

[Verse 4]

Phone calls came later, sober and strong

Helpin' other men find where they belong

Respect grew deeper for the man you'd become

Battlin' storms, but you never succumbed

[Pre-Chorus]

Then Royal's email hit like a thunderclap roar

"Rain's gotta fall, Tom's stormin' no more"

Dialed up his number, heart heavy with dread

Young Cameron answered, said Tom's light had fled

[Bridge]

Passed at his desk, secrets he never shared

Physical battles, but he never despaired

Last words in my inbox, cut straight to the soul

"I love you... that's all," left me feelin' so cold

Dang, son, still tears me up inside

The strangest stories we'd trade, now echo in the tide

[Outro]

Tom was gone, that deep bond slipped away

The guy for my wild tales, every single day

Years have passed, but not a week without you

God bless, my friend, hope to see you anew

(Instrumental fade out with guitar solo, building to a rockin' close)
